Rethinking Tennis elbow

  •  Published in the British Medical Journal in 2006 is an article by Bissett et al who completed clinical trials comparing corticosteroid injections and placebo injections and physiotherapy for the treatment of tennis elbow.
  • This article highlights that while corticosteroid injection may give good short term recovery in the first 3 to 6 months at 12 months there is a 72% recurrence rate and delayed healing.
  • Physiotherapy provided in the trial gave a slower recovery however the recurrence rate was only 8% at 26 and 52 months.
